Default trieng to improve gas mileage on my 95 neon, and transmission problem!

Hey guys,
I have had this 1995 4 dr, autmatic neon for several years, I have actually drove it all the way up to 134,000 miles, how much longer it will go, we will never know! Anyways, I do alot of highway driving, so I was going to do some maintnance on it, something it needs. Does changing plug wires, and spark plugs help it any? I know its about due, any thing like that, I was wonering what would be best, or worth changing, besides air filter and changing oil. Anyhow, TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I have had th is problem for awhile, anways, when you take off (no matter on temp. outside, or how long it warms up, always does it), it goes fine, but when it shifts to second (between 15-20 mph i think), it hesitates, revs up, then goes into second. It does not do this when shifting to third, just going from first to second (THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). I changed the tranny oil one day (on a sunday, part stores were close and I needed to leave that next day) so I never changed the filter. Has anyone had that problem, or have had it fixed? Thanks!

But I do know, these neons are unstoppable, I drive it two hours every day. I clobered a deer in it about a month ago, in the drivers side door, got out thinking it did some terrible damage, and guess what, NOTHING!

spark plugs and wires would be fine...just change them to the OEM Champions..no Platinum plugs. for the transmission i would replace the filter and see if that helps...filter being the transmission filter.

Change the tranny filter and you will probably find pieces of your transmission in there... Luckly it hasnt clogged your filter to where you cant drive it (happend to me) and i got it fixed (second time now) for 1200 bux... Good luck and hope its not that!

My 96 had a it hesitate problem but that was due to someone putting ATFIII in it.I changed the filter and put the ATF4mopar transmission fluid in & its been fine ever since.
