As for the codes, the engine coolant temp sensor is a very important sensor. It tells the computer when the coolant gets hot enough to turn on the radiator cooling fan.If you sit at an idle for a while, that fan should kick on after 3-5 min of running, when its hot.If that fan does not kick on, or your temp sensor acts funny at all...replace it, its cheap.Prolly a $10 sensor that could cost you an engine.

Egr system failure means that your exhaust gas recurculation is prolly clogged up.Or sometimes the egr valve itself can go back.I would try and take your intake tube off the throttle body. There is a metal tube that goes into the side of the throttle body.Sometimes this tube gets clogged right near where it connects to the throttle body. The egr works off of vacuum pressure, so if its clogged, and not getting vacuum it needs, it sends a signal to pcm to turn on check engine light. This can also cause the car to run poorly, because all the gas fumes that are supposed to be going back thru engine to be burned, are backing up and the car can run rich.(too much fuel).Does it use more gas than usual.?

As for the engine misfire, that dont really tell you much.Anytime the engine fumbles or misses or bad spark, it can cause a misfire. In your case, it may be lack of , or too much fuel getting in there, due to bad egr.

With the transmission....I have a manual in mine, and (knocks on wood)..I have'nt had any problems.I know there are sensors and possibly a cable to adjust on an automatic, but I really have no idea...cause I never worked on one.Is the fluid clean?, it should have been changed at least once in 120,000 miles.Did you have any prior problems with the transmission.? Did it ever not want to go into gears, or slip, or act funny at all.?

So...I would have the egr system tubes checked to make sure they are clear, If they are and you still get the code, you will have to get a new egr valve, which is not too cheap..Im guessing around $90 new....again thats a guess.

Hopefully someone who knows more about auto transmissions will pop up and give a few pointers.Good luck...hope I helped...

i have been going back and forth with neoncrazy101. i appreciate all your help.

the original owner had the EGR valve replaced in 2003. neoncrazy said that it is prbably dirty so ill be having that checked out tomorrow. i will also be having the engine coolant temp sensor replaced.

i had the spark plugs replaced about 3 weeks ago but with platinum plugs. I was told that was BAD so they also will be removed asap.

as far as the transmission fluid being clean im not really sure. it looked red on the dipstick....
the only gear it doesnt want to go in is reverse but after i making sure the oil is good, it reverses fine. no slippage or anything like that.

i will be taking my car to a dodge dealership. i called the service dept and they told me to bring it because a rod coming thru the block might not be the problem. they said they would have to hear and see for themselves.
