So my cars thermastat was stuck open....or so I thought.
I was wrong it was just broken.
That is all I initally pulled out the rest I had to fish out with my fingers.

my wife blew the water pump on her jeep a few years ago and when i changed the thermostat afterwards it looked kinda like that....

 

Wow...well at least you found the problem.

 

Yea, it was such a bitch my dad and I figured the coolant hadnt ever been changed, when it drained it was brown and took 3 fresh water flushes to get clean water through the system. But when I pulled the thermastat we were both shocked that it was in pieces.
