98 Neon will not start
Hey guys and gals, thought I could get some advice for my 98 Neon. So far this is what's up with it: About 4 days ago it choked out coming home from work. It didn't limp home it just stopped, I checked the fuel pump, batteries, fuses(not the relays), and then the lines. This is what I am thinkin' so far; The codes tell me I have an 11, so it could be the Cam or Crank sensors. My question is this: Aside from general advice which would be much appreciated, how easy are the sensors to replace? I feel really dumb since I am an Army mechanic and could rip the guts out of a Humvee, but this is kicking my butt!
Many of the dodge codes can be broken down further if read on a proper OBDII reader.(see below)
[ul][*]11 - No crank reference signal at the Powertrain control Module (PCM).[*]11 (P1390) - Timing belt skipped one tooth or more.[*]11 (P1391) - Intermittent loss of Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) or Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). [/ul]
So have the codes read it could be as simple as a sensor or as bad as a damaged or broken timming belt.
The camshaft sensor is on the transmission end of the head. just unplug the wiring and remove 4 small bolts if its the same as the 1995. The crankshaft sensor is behind the alternator, I've never done one of these but it appears to be mounted with a single bolt.

Thats only four bolts on a SOHC head and two on a DOHC. The sensors are fairly easy to replace about 10 to 15 minutes to replace each one. Invest in a Haynes manual, its only $15 and it tells you where everything is.
Thanks for all your help, can someone direct me to a good online parts store?
