Default Putting it back together

Well my friend is in a situation where his electric might be shut off if he doesnt get his neon sold to pay the bill, i told him 500 the way it sits, it has a nice block and i can get a decent head for it, the catch is we took the pistons out in the summer so he could upgrade, well he ran out of money and cant finish. So my question is, can we hone the block and put the pistons back in with the same rings, Im pretty sure i will have to get new rod bearings the old ones are ugly. Im not trying to make a race car out of it yet, im just trying to get the car moving.

no you cannot use the old piston rings they will not seat correctly on the cylinder walls. you must put in new rings and hone the cylinder walls. Napa auto parts usually has the rings the cheapest $90.
