Default shuttin down for no reason

PROBLEM. I was coming home from work today, and I was doing about 95mph. I down shifted to 4th gear and the the speedo and the tach completly shut down. the motor was dead. Its not the first time this has happened. I was at autozone just idling in the parking lot and it did the same thing. It usually happens when im high in the rpm's (about 4-6 grand) but like I said it will shut down randomly. Every time it shuts down it wont start back up until at least4 minutes after it shuts down.( yes i timed it every time) Then when it starts up it runs fine.

WHAT I THINK IT IS. fuel pump/ bubbles in the fuel lines/ failing injectors/ im still not sure what it is. I was hoping you guys might be able to help me. any ideas would be helpful.
thanks

He said it usually happends at high rpm's but it "will shut down randomly[sm=laughat.gif]?"ide say u have a power problem,,,have u checked ur engin codes,,could be ur computer?if it takes 4 min 2 come back to normal,,or my second guess would probably be fuel pump,,pump is showing sign's of old age,,,,,keep us posted good luck..

I had kind of the same problem with stalling and it was a $12 oil switch.

I checked the comp it said i have a dead o2 censor but that is all it said. no i was idling at normal idle speed. it does have really old belts but that cant be making it shut down do to no battery power my radio stays on and the idiot lights stay on. i talked to another friend and he said that he had the same problem and he just replaced the fuel filter and tuned it up and he hasnt had a problem with it yet. i tuned up my car a week ago but i didnt get the fuel filter replaced. im just concerned because im going to north carolina in 2 weeks and i dont want it to die on me while im gone. i live in ohio that would be a long walk.

thanx i check back later to see if anyone else has any ideas.

i forgot to mention that it could be the crank sensor too. If you're gonna go replacing parts, start with the little cheap problem causers.lol. i'd hate to hear you walked.lmao and busses suck

Depending on how many miles you have on the car, a fuel filter replacement isn't a bad idea anyway. You check for fuel pressure at the rail, should be 49 psi.
