Default code 54 - changed cam sensor, no luck

Hi folks,

OK, so I was driving home last week and the trusty neon died on me. :-( It just cut out and wouldn't start. Got a tow home, and pulled the codes to find code 54 in there.

I just got done changing the camshaft position sensor, and it still wont start, and still has code 54 (and no others except 12 and 55).

What should I do next?! I read somewhere about a sensor in the distributor, but I don't know where the distributor is or what it looks like (yep, I'm that much of a novice!!).

Any help is appreciated!

Adam.

This is a wild shot, but I reviewed the codes and each one you picked off ahd something to do with the PCM as well...Wonder if thats your problem too

hmmm... but 12 just means battery disconnected and 55 means end of codes, no?

12 and 55 are normal. 54 is cam sensor signal loss to PCM, since you changed it, i'd check the plug again at the PCM, check for any burnt or messed up wires.Go over all the wiring, plug ends and try to follow your wires as far as possible. Ive had the cam sensor wires get pulled out of the plug before and still appear to be in.
Maybe the PCM just died.
