all im saying das2123 is there is some things that u dont know and when people give their 2 cents usometime's come and **** on their advice,,maybe u know 99%more than alot of people on here but there is that 1% thing that others do know or have experiance with that u havn't,,and ur the first to argue,,,im not ****ting on an1 here,if i do ask a question all advice is greatly apreciated,im not saying ur wrong all the time u give alot of great advice,,,and i bet alot of people here would say the same that ur probably the reason alot ofusr still riding, but give us a chance to give advice on what we know,,i was just saying that without the ground connected on my car it did'nt start!!!!!!(((((((You can leave it disconnected....doesn't affect the car starting at all.)))))))so by me saying i have no power to the starter without the ground wire, what would be the reason for the no power than if the wire is off???

The two of you are right... The wire is important to ground the engine; however, this is not the only connection the engine can be grounded through. It is there for a reason afterall.

let us all be nice to each other :-)

But it makes no sense why that particular ground would have any bearing on the starter.

That ground wire on my car bolts to the top of the alternator bracket under the power steering res. right beside the one power steering bracket line the reason i know is because i took my motor out last week and allmost ripped it out. So im thinking it might be a ground to the alternator.

that groud wire, from the fender, on 5 of the neons ive been through or torn apart or owned is supposed to go to the HOOD to ground it for the light. if its not connected, you hood light might not work when opened. thats it. thats all its for.

^^^ Are you serious? I haven't ever seen it connected to the hood anywhere. That would be a new one for me, but I also never had a hood light.

my 95 the hood light didnt work after i ripped that thing off when i took the hood off. My race car had it the same way too. i remember it because every car i took apart for parts i'd unbolt the hood then that damn ground strap would be on there still.

There is a reason for the ground strap to be there. It is to ground the engine. There are more than one grounding point to the engine: so that one in particular may not affect it from starting/running at this time. Also, some of you may have solid motor mounts, at least in the front and/or bobble strut. These willfor sureadd additional grounding as there is not rubber in them. All of that being said, the neon is extremely particular to grounding, (or lack of grounding) as are all mopar products. They always have been. How many times have all of us seen on this forum that someones car won't start, is bucking, idles rough, etc.? Themost notorious, first check from everyone on here is to check the ground terminal on the battery for corrosion.
Bottom line, it is important to have the engine properly grounded. All my cars have at least four extra grounds from the engine to the chassis. Just a little racing tip, it improves torque just a wee bit, and everyone knows that torque equals grunt off the line. So before DAS jumps on me, that is 26 years of racing, and mechanic/technician experience. Laugh it off DAS I'm just f*cking with ya! Everyone knows that you know you neons!!!
