Default squeaky pulley

im just wondering if anyone is familiar with the squeaky pulley my 98 SOHC has got under the hood. Ive been told its the bushing being out on the idler pulley, but im unsure as ive never dealt with it before. I just inherited the car from my mother, and its been doing it for quite some time now. No problems, just squeaky when idling. Sorry for my written sound effects, but its just kindof a wwhhaa wwhhaa wwhhaa wwhhaa sound. If familiar with this, whats it called and is it difficult to replace?

With or without the A/C on? Could be your power steering belt.

Tighten the power steering belt and see if that helps. You may need to replace it, if its been slipping for awhile.

Am i just a retard, or is changing/checking the drive belts on the 98 SOHC Neons more difficult than rebuilding a jet engine. Am i just looking at this wrong or is there some special trick to doing it. Theres like 1 inch of room to work in and im an average size man, with average size hands that just wont fit. Is there some trick to this, because the service manual definitely don't enlighten me to any tricks?

Jack up the passenger side and support it with a jack stand. Remove the passenger wheel and then the plastic splash guard that covers the engine. This will give you access to the belts. The adjustment bolt on the alternator is on the back, on my 1995 Neon I found that removing the air cleaner housing (one bolt on the inside and lift to pop it out of the rubber grommets) gave good access to it.

I got the squeaking fixed with the replacement of the powersteering/ A/C belt. I tried to get the Alternator belt loosened, but i was unable to due to the tight, tight, tight, area in front of the top front locknut. Just unable to get it loosened with the tools i have. I think with an actual specialty tool it be fine, but hey, whatever, problems fixed. For now. Thanks a lot again here guys.
