97 neon new tranny in and it wont start?
ok this is the second neon i did that this has happened to. i bought the car and the trans went bad so i got a good tranny from my 95 parts car and i took the old one out and bolted the new one in and hooked it all up and i go to turn it over and i get no response from the starter. i hooked up all cables and wires and i know the engine and trans is properly installed. cant figure out why it is doing it. i did the 3on and 2 off thing and got a code 12 which means the battery was disconected. otherwise i have no codes and i double checked all the wiring and still nothing. what should i do? id hate to take that damn thing out again, its like 20 deg out here in wisconsin.
all the input is greatly appreciated.

well the fuse is good and it is grounded and i spliced the small brown wire that comes from the ignition and i jumped it from the battery and it turned over and started right up. i just cant figure out why the key cant start it. i swaped the ac relay with the starterrelay ( they are the same)to see if that was it but it didnt make any differance.

neutral safety switch if its an automatic, its the 3 wire plug on the front of the trans, works the reverse lights also.
take it out of your old trans and put in your new one.
to test it, ground the brown wire ( i think its the center one) and see if it cranks with the key.
or make sure your shifter is all the way in park.
wiggle the shifter maybe and see if it cranks. You say the trans went bad so i assume its an auto.
dont happen very often with a 5 spd.

yeah i didnt try that yet and yes its a auto. i did move the shifter when i tried to start it and i can start it in neutral. i will have to check that plug out and yes switch the sensor to see what i can do. thanks for the info.
also i have one more question. when i put my tranny in i broke the plastic plug of the speed sensor or whatever you call it twords the rear and so i put in the othr one from the other tranny but it wont plug in. would that plug be different from a 95 to a 97?
