alright so here is whats wrong. first off my speedo will just fluctuate like crazy it will from like 10 to 120 instantly, but sometimes if i let off the gas it will go back to my actual speed. Another thing is if i get on it after like a second it will cut out bad like if i was hitting rev limiter or something to that effect, but i know im not hitting the rev limiter. Both these problems started at the same time so i think they are interconnected.

 

you can either change it or u can fix it,,,its most likly bad soldering onthe back of the cluster u could go to ******* and look up 1st gen cluster fix,,,u should be able to find out how to fix it there,,good luck,,whats a matter das r u having issues with the neon.org[sm=boohoo.gif]how come das2123 any1 else can mention the org but when i mention it u edit my post,,,lmfao..

I'd be checking the connection at the speed sensor also.

 

racerx55I think you are correct. I had the same problem with mine when I bought the car. The only difference is that the transmission speed sensor was good. The problem with mine was that that the gear that drives the transmission speed sensor was out of place. the gear the drives the speed sensor is a white or clear plastic piece and it snappes into an aluminum spool.
jdog08all you have to do is take the screw off the speedsensor. pull the speed sensor out and stick your finger in there to feel if the gear is loose. if you flash a light in there you can actually see the gear. if that is the problem hit me back up and ill walk you through how to fix it. When i got my car it was doing the same thing. the speedo neddle would go from 0 to 120 and bounce all over the place. all of a sudden it would jerk and cut off and come back on sometimes. it even broke the drive belts once because it jerked so hard. well good luck and let me know what happens
