Default MPG

What kind of miles per gallon is everybody getting? I get from 27-33 in my 95 SOHC Auto. Anybody done any mods to get better mpg? I am interested in trying some of the things I have seen on www.fueleconomytips.com but wanted to get some input from everybody first. There is a cool thing on there about drilling out spark plugs, running acetone in your gas, and cutting grooves in your head. Also running a turbo at like 6 lbs of boost is mentioned on there. Let me know what you think.

1995 Neon SOHC manual.
Back in 1997 when my Neon had about 20,000mi on it, I took a trip from Saskatoon SK to Minot ND a round trip of about 800 mi. Highway only driving I got 49 mi per Imp./Can Gal. or 40.1mi per US gal. I doubt that it gets that good any more with around 200,000 miles on it. I’ve never checked city mileage.

My 97 with magnum cam, iceman, pacesetter header, borla exhaust and other stuff got about 40 mpg on the highway and about 35 mpg on the street. My current 96 gets about 25 mpg during city driving and 28-30 mpg on the highway.

My 98 SOHC Auto with 58,000 mi gets in the neighborhood of 30 on the highway and 23 in the city. No mods just run Mobil One.

The thing about the turbo I just do not see. The very idea of a turbo is to charge the cylinder with more fuel and air. Turbos typically get worse fuel mileage that a N/A car.
I have actually run acetone in my gas in all my cars. I did not notice any mileage increase but the cars did run smoother. More of a seat of the pants experience than anything else. I do put acetone in my lawnmower gas. It used to take me a tank and half to mow the whole yard. Now I can mow it with one tank without running out.
I will have to read about drilling out spark plugs and cutting grooves in the head before forming an opinion. Get back to ya on those.

turbo cars sumtimes get better mpg if they are driven correctly since you dont have to get on the gas as much to get the car moving
