Default 1st gen PCM interoperability

I have 97 SOHC Neon with ATX.

I might be needing a new PCM. Called dealer, they quoted $445 + tax. They also said PCMs are NOT interchangeable between different years and it even makes a difference when the PCM was manufactures.

I'm sure there are some small differences in PCM, but if i get a PCM from a 96 SOHC with ATX, will i have problems?

you will run into problems because of the coolong fans......
try and find one from a 97-99
but you have to make sure that it is a sohc and it is an auto

darn it!! cooling problem is exactly what i'm trying to cure with "new" PCM!

so you are saying 98-99 are more similar mechanically to 97 than 95-96?

97 98 99 are the same pcm
96 had the fan difference
95-early 96 had the smaller pcm with 1 big wide plug

das knows about the fan thing, its only a matter of time until he chimes in

He's actually gone thru a few of them and the fuse is fine too, according to him.

Get a PCM from any 97-99 SOHC ATX neon and you will be fine. Costs about $30-$50. You could use a 96, but you would have to swap the pin to activate the fan, so I'd suggest staying away from it.
