Normal highway RPMs?
I had my daughter's Neon out on the highway today and noticed the RPMs at 70 MPH were about 3000. I ran it up to 80 MPH and they were just shy of 3500. I know it's only a 3 speed tranny, but is this normal?
In my DOHC 5-speed neon I am at about 3500 at 80mph. Never had n e problems, the car goes up to a lil before 8000 and I’ve buried that speedometer on multiple occasions.
Though I know when I first got the car that seemed high compared to other cars but my car has remained running so it doesn't seem that bad.

the neons do rev a little high, but they were also built for it...atleast the dohc's were
but also remember that the 1st neons were built for racing, so the higher rev ability helps get up and go and also allows you to keep them in lower gears for longer time....
and the sohc tranny's are the same model as the tranny's that came in the late 80's- early 90's chrysler turbo cars....so they will hold up to alot
