Default Parts price/quality advice

I've an upcoming business trip to the US and aim to stock up on some parts for my 1984 W350, if I can get shipment to the hotel. Some parts are hard to get and expensive in the Netherlands (e.g. K&N E-1100 air filter €63.50, around $82, which is more than double the US price).

I've a question on the price/quality ratio of parts. Should I avoid the cheapest options (e.g. air filters below $10)? Are the most expensive options (air filters above $30) really worth the money? Can any general advice be given that would also cover oil filters etc?

I'm driving mostly on paved roads, not very dusty, no towing, short trips.

Thanks,

Nico

I like mopar oil filters. The K&N air filter is worth the $40 or so dollars, because it is reusable.
