1988 dodge VIN
same here. they just look at the paper work and i walked out with plates. now if i was to get pulled over and the vin on the owner ship did not match what was on the dash then i might be in trouble but when i bought it i confirmed the paperwork and dash board vin matched. the one on the door jamb is not as important since it is only a sticker.
i guess you have never been in a vehicle with plates that where apparently not registered to any vehicles lol. i guess it depends on the cop. i know people that have luckily got away with a lot.
Can't speak for everywhere but here in Va. a call to the state police will get you a new VIN placard for your truck and the paper work to back it up so you will be legal. Most of the time cops don't verify the VIN but if one ever does you will most likely be treated to a visit at a precinct house until every thing is straightened out.
