1988 dodge VIN
My son very recently bought a 1988 Dodge 4x4 half ton. But the Vin, near as I can tell from my book says it is a 1988 Dodge D100. D100 is half ton 2 wheel drive right? W100 is 4x4? Ha very confused. It is very clearly a 4x4, dash indicator and all. Just wondering if anyone else has come acros this kind of issue before.
w series dodge trucks are 4x4 and d series trucks are 2wd. ram charger central has a vin decoder for these trucks. someone might have swapped a bad body for a good one and chose to go with the 2wd dash and ownership
Here is a vin decoder for our trucks right here on this site. You are looking for the 5th character in the VIN. You must beer in mind that the VIN tells you about the truck that rolled of the assembly line, but after 24 years things may or may not be the same.

I thought about the dash swap this morning actually. I haven't seen the vin or truck myself yet. Son took a picture of it. It clearly states it as a D100 haha. Judging from the 100 or so pictures he has sent me, it is most definitely an 88 Dodge 4x4 half ton with a 318. I am betting there was a dash swap or something like that. Thanks for the quick replies. Is there another VIN elsewhere on the truck ya think? I've been driving Dodges all my life(40 years old now) Never had to locate the VINS haha
"there should also be a sticker on the door jamb that has the vin." ok thanks. See if anything matches the title lol if not I'm going to make my boy NOT buy it. To suspicious for me.

True but, is it possible to get a new VIN plate for the dash? Just so there would be no confusion at the D.O.T. when it comes time to get the truck registered?
