Default 1992 ram 150 timing and starting issues

i have a 92 ram 150, 318 motor, auto trans. 2wd. let me begin first by telling you guys what i have done, i pulled the motor and trans, rebuilt the trans, replaced the head gaskets up, put it back together it ran rough i didnt have the funds for a new timing set at that time, so i recently (this past weekend) replaced the timing gears and chain, and the oil pump. all done by the "book" , i checked to make sure i had the motor at tdc everything seems fine, tried to start it and nothin but a backfire once. replaced everything as far as ignition is concerned, coil, pick up coil, dist cap, rotor, wires, has new plugs, also replaced the auto shut off relay. where the hell do i go from here? before i roll it off a cliff!!! i have gas, you can smell it out the exhaust, i have spark, pulled each wire to check, tried advancing the distributor but to no avail i'm stumped!!! please help me.

yes, i made sure all of the plug wires were correct. according to hoyle everything is correct and the stupid thing should start. like i said all i did was replace the timing set and the oil pump, it ran long enough to get it in the drive way and up on ramps but now nothing.

i would say it sounds like it should run so i am guessing something must have been missed when you replaced the timing chain. the distributor on your truck should have less of an effect on the timing and more of an effect of when the fuel is shot into the cylinder.

i'd also HATE to have to tear it all the way down again, either the timing cover or down to heads again

there should be no sensor to stop it from starting if you have spark and fuel. something must have been missed or not done right when you replaced the timing chain and did a tuneup.
