1986 spare tire carrier parts and location
Good Morning Ram folks.
I am helping a neighbor in need. I am trying to get his 1986 Ran 150 Royal SE ready to sell as he will be moving to a nursing home soon. The truck has not been moved in 12 years and I have it running fairly smoothly and am in the process of replacing the water pump. All this is going well but I cannot figure out the SPARE TIRE CARRIER.
I have the wheel and tire and the carrier but none of the parts to connect the carrier underneath the bed. I assume that it fits diagonally somehow and would really appreciate some help here. If there is a drawing I could look up that would be great or if not perhaps someone could explain how to hook it up.

I am going off memory of how my 76 is setup but, it is a bar that just supports the wheel. I didn't look at how to adjust it as mine has no tire there, however the bar is farther up front on the driver's side and the passenger side of the bar is in the corner.

Thanks, it does make sense. I too am in East Texas at Lake Fork. It has been so long since I have had one of these I just forgot. I can improvise the hardware to hang it.
I learned to drive in a 1950 Dodge Truck that had a floor shifter and its low gear that would pull any incline as long as it could get traction. The hard part was negotiating curves at speed on our west Texas rubboard dirt roads with its stiff suspension.

As for the hardware, I think what holds the bar up is just two REALLY long bolts.
Then again, mine might be cobbled together, but it should give you an idea anyhow.

Right! I just happened to have two 8" X 5/8" bolts that worked out just right.
Do you happen to know how I could learn the motor CID from the VIN on the car? It is a V8 but I do not know if it is a 318, 360 or something else. I'm about ready t list it for sale but I will have to find this out first.

The engine code is the 8th digit in the VIN...
Vin code T is a 2 barrel carb 318
Vin code U is a 4 barrel carb 318
Vin code V is a 2 barrel carb 360
And Vin code W is a 4 barrel carb 360.
