Alright, so far things are weird.
I performed the procedure you had outlined, I started it with the vacuum advance hooked up normally, then unhooked it. When I opened the throttle with the port uncapped nothing happened. I mean it literally just reved like normal. So I pulled a cap off the vacuum tree on the manifold, that made it idle lumpy like. Hooked the advance hose up to that and capped the port on the carb. Idle increased a little bit, I mean barely even noticeable. Maybe 100 rpm? Then I put everything back and then it started idling kind of lumpy, but not low.
Took the dizzy cap off and found a bit of moisture, considering I washed parts of the engine yesterday, that's to be expected. I pulled the rotor off and I'm waiting for engine to cool down a bit before tearing into the dizzy.

Okay. I'm pretty sure the advance linkage stuff isn't frozen. I put the rotor back on and cranked the engine several times, this allowed me to see the little springs on the underside of the plate. They were moving, so I went ahead and shot some PB down there. Everything seems to be working there. The only thing I haven't done with that yet is pull the vacuum pod and see if it's working or stuck. That will likely be next assuming I can get a screw driver in there to unscrew it. Seems to be running with a little more authority, bog is still there, but everything else sounds better.

Got a couple pictures of the underside I had cleaned off, didn't get a chance to do the other side of the engine today, I guess I'll do that tomorrow or next week. But here they are:
New-ish fuel pump
Oil pan, out of focus, camera was being a pain. I had barely even touched this, so it looked like crap. lol
Now for the "what is it" pictures.
This appears attached to the vacuum pod:

All right, so after having shot some PB into the advance linkage and working it back and forth, replacing the PCV valve and cleaned at the carb and richened the metering rods, things seem to be working better.
I took it out on the highway today, truck has some awesome passing power, goes from 60-75 rather quickly when you put the pedal down. When I pulled into the driveway the bog seemed to be gone, however, here is my issue: the truck was running a tad hot.
I think that after a few WOT accelerations and WOT passes to 80mph, it got the truck up to 220. It was inching far too close to the 230 mark on the gauge. Once I got back into town at speeds of around 55, it started to drop some finally settling back at around 210. Pulled the truck into the yard and popped the hood. Didn't smell anything weird, nothing was burning off, no coolant anywhere. Checked the fan and it's good, I'm wondering if it needs a rad flush or something, there is a ton of crap in the rad.
Other than that, when hot, BOG IS GONE! Dunno what fixed it though, maybe that's it was just really how?

So, I've replaced the connectors at the ballast resistor, checked the resistance, it read 1.5 omhs.
Check the resistance at the connector for the ECU, that read 275. Lost a socket and extension in the fender, and I've got the breather soaking in degreaser currently.
Man is that breather dirty! :S

Just some pictures of what I did yesterday and monday:
Degreaser engine oil mixture from the breather...
Black engine oil being drained..man it smelled bad.
Spare tire carrier that was a total bear to remove.
Out of focus shot under the bed of how much space was opened up by removing the carrier bar.
I cracked the exhaust when I was wrenching on the carrier.

Got some new wheels for the 76 today!
Came off an 02, but they're really from a 97.
Ain't they just so purdy?
I've still got to clean the tires themselves, so my hands aren't black every time I touch them. But we're both thinking they're going to look really nice on that truck once it's all painted black.
