Best engine ever built
that is a another one of those thing that depend on how you look at it. the slant 6 was stuck in everything from cars to truck, boats and farm equipment. plus the slant 6 gets fairly good gas mileage.
could that ford 302 keep up with the 21mpg that a stock 300 can get?
chevy needs as much aftermarket supports as they can get with the way some of there engine were straight out of the factory.

^ Amen to that.
Half the time when you see an older chevy truck for sale, the listing includes the words "newer 350". I'm not really trying to knock them, since I've never had one to like or dislike, and obviously you can make loads of power out of one. But I do think a large part of their appeal is that they are a dime a dozen.

I think that is because there are so many competitors that build 350s, you can often buy a crate engine for about the same cost as rebuilding the one you already have. So, for those that would rather not go through the rebuild themselves, its an easy choice. Yes, I believe that the majority of the appeal of a chevy is the ability to build one on the income of a Bosnian coal miner.

It runs af if new now and I installed a new clutch, all new brakes including rotors, drums calipers and such and replaced all the electrical switches in the entire truck since I was going to use it solely to tow my boat. Wanted it stone reliable.
I am willing to bet that even though it is now 39 years old, it will last another 40 years. I like my Dodge a lot better though!
Half the time that is because the person is a liar, and the other half is that they go about 300K miles before anyone wants to sell them. I bought (actually traded a motorcycle I got free) a 1974 Chev 3/4 ton 4x2 about 4 years ago. When I got it it had 322K on it and had JUST gotten a fresh motor. It still ran when the guy put the new motor in but was barely smoking.

Granted, the odo only shows 85xxx mi.

But it WAS used to haul a race car...so that accounts for something.
So if you build Dodges, and it only takes the income of a Bosnian coal miner to build Chevys......
What coal miner income does it take to build Dodges?
What coal miner income does it take to build Dodges?
Appalachian, methinks! I'm not a coal miner, but I know a few of them who love dodges.
