I bought a 1985 d100 today (2/24/18) slant 6 long bed. Just wondering what type of transmission it is? Also has a problem with wiring at the key switch have to start it by touching the starter. Any ideas about that? I also got a 1982 d100 parts truck with a slant 6 from a 1979 truck. He said will not work bc of the wiring. Thanks

 

pretty sure they switched to a 50 pin firewall bulkhead connector in 85 so whoever is saying it won't work is likely right but you may want to double check. pretty sure 81-84 had a 40 pin connector and the 85-93 have a 50 pin connector.

you shouldn't need to touch the starter to get it started. if you run power to the brown wire on the starter relay it should make the engine turn unless there is something wrong with the starter. it really shouldn't be too hard to trouble shoot where your issue is. the orange wire on the starter relay run straight to the ignition switch so it really would not be too hard to test
