Default Oil capacity for a 5.2?

I’m doing an oil change on my truck, looked up the capacity and the website I found says 5 quarts. I drained it and put about 3.5 quarts in and let it sit for a couple minutes before I checked the dipstick. The oil comes right up to the very top of the safe line as if it’s at max capacity. Do I have the wrong dipstick or something? I don’t want to ignore it and go dump the other 1.5qt in and blow all my seals out but 3.5qts for the engine and filter just doesn’t seem right.

i have never put less than 5 quarts in a 5.2 especially if it leaks. usually put about 5.5-6 depending on how bad the rear main and valve seals are.

welp i guess I’ll just throw the rest in there and see what happens then. Idk if I have the wrong dipstick or what but she definitely appears to be overfilled already.

Did you run the engine to fill the filter?
