Default 91 d250 tranny A518

I blew out 3rd gear and truck been sitting, looking to fix or by used tranny. have a few questions though not familiar with dodge. It has overdrive but only has 3 gears in dash - what controls the overdrive function. I've always had 4 gears in dashboard.1,2,3, D. Auto zone has rebuilt ones around 2000 dollars and some of them want you to change the cooler, anyone know of cheaper alternatives near st louis. This truck is not worth much.

O/D is controlled by the PCM. A solenoid in the trans engages it.

Pretty much any reman trans is going to want you to replace the cooler, or at the very least, flush it out. No point getting the crap from the blown up trans into your new trans.....

Some folks have rebuilt them themselves. There are some really good video tutorials on YouTube for just such an occasion. Only sticking point is, need a press for the mondo spring in the O/D unit......

thanks for the info. i rebuilt a 750 turbo once and that will be the last, had to get a rubber seal in a one of the gears it was a drum. Worked on it for 2 days could not get the rubber in. took it to a local tranny guy and he had the special little tool and slipped it in, like 15 seconds. all the carb cleaner cause of not having a wash tub. no thanks
