The Captain is correct. For the LA engines, there are several different heads. The 318's have smaller chambers and yeah, you'll be losing compression and power. I don't have time right now, but you should look into getting some Magnum heads since they flow a lot better. Or try to find LA 318 heads from the mid/late 80s, they've got swirl ports and other things to help .
look for the whole upper motor that has 308 casting heads. These are a improved flow high swirl head. magnum heads would be better but carburating it is a pain and I am not sure of the compatibility of the magnum injection system on your truck.
The magnum heads don't have fuel injector bosses, those are in the intake manifold. Swapping in some Magnum HD heads would allow for way more airflow, and they're relatively inexpensive. You'd have to re-drill the mounting holes to adapt the intake manifold to the heads, but there are people out there who can tell you more about that.

you know as far as carburated heads go....if it is a factory 4bbl they are 360 heads. I would not redrill magnum heads for the factory intake edlebrock makes a intake for magnum heads but its for a carb. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/4bbl.htmlhas a couple of articles on modifing a 318 and head info. I started here when I upgraded my satellite motor.
