You'll also have to get a magnum intake and if you wnat to maintain your current A engine Camshaft then changing the tappets will be necessary. You'll also nedd hollow pushrods because this is how the heads are oiled. This all came from a book specifically for converting magnum heads to older smallblocks and other applications.

Or drill your current intake for the heads.

i'm looking at the Magnum Head and putting a Comp Cam High Energy Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft and a Edelbrock Intake Manifold Idle - 5,500 RPM.

Mopar sells a conversion kit to retro to the magnum heads. It includes hydraulic tappets (part# p4529220ab), rocker arms (part # p4876050), hydraulic pushrods (part # p5007477). You'll need an intake manifold. For the money the Edelbrock Airgap intake is the best performer. The Mopar M1 single plane is good too, but on back order. The Mopar dual plane isn't all that hot. Whatever cam you get, don't get one for the Magnum engine, or you won't be able to use your mechanical fuel pump. The Magnumcams won't easily accept the fuel pump eccentric(lobe that bumps the fuel pump rod to make it work). It's also highly likely you'll need new valve springs. Feel free to ask as many questions as you have on your engine. I have a built Magnum 5.9 in my 85 Ramcharger. I do have some suspension questions for you though, as long as you don't mind.

Looking for ~250 at the crank?

250 shouldn't be too hard. 350 isn't too hard with a rebuild and raising the compression up. I was ballpark about 250 at the crank in my Ram, but it's hard to say for sure. 180 at the tires through an auto with 35" heavy *** all terrain tires, there's tons of drag in the drivetrain. A 2wd 1/2 ton with small tires would have posted better numbers with the same engine.

My setup was holly 600 carb, edelbrock performer manifold, performer+ cam, rebuilt shortblock, stock heads, hooker long tube headers, mopar distributor + orange ECM, no emissions junk, and an msd blaster high vibration coil. If I had to do it over again I'd have picked a more aggressive cam. My friend's 318 had similar mods, smaller tires and a manual tranny with divorced t-case and he put down slightly more hp, slightly less tq. Of course, for us the low end grunt was the priority versus high-rpm screamer, so with a couple steps more aggressive on the cam those HP numbers would come up.

250 hp would be EASY!! To give you an example, this is what I have. The only real difference is that I started with a 5.9 Magnum engine pulled froma 98 3/4 ton truck. However, that shouldn't make a difference.

stock rods and stock crank (stock rods shot-pened)
bored .030 over (365
cu./in.) (9.23:1 compression)
stock heads with mopar performace valve springs and retainers (very mildly worked to deburr the chambers)
Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cam (265int./273exh .506" lift int/exh)
Edelbrock Airgap intake manifold
Holley 750 carb w/ 1" spacer (electric fuel pump fed)
Mopar performance distributor
Headman headers

That's basically it. On the engine dyno (not chassis dyno) it made 392 hp @ 5100 rpm and 437 ft./lbs. @ 4100 rpm before nitrous. After, well, that's for me to know

Not too bad huh?

For more info, read this article on a 318 buildup. You're gonna find it interesting.

Yeah, I checked out your cardomain site. I like your truck man. You should be proud of how she's turning out. Did those fender flares(or whatever you call them) come with th truck? Am I correct that they help close the gap between the tires and fender? Also, did you have to do a c-notch when you flipped the axle? If not, how much axle clearance do you have?
