Where are the Pre-1991 RAM Acessories?
Hi All!
I just joined the forum. I recently acquired a well maintained 1987 D150 Slant-6 225. It's low mileage (48K) and purrs like a kitten. I've always had a facination for the slant-6 and excited to start my customizing project.
Unfortunately, I'm having a difficult time finding exterior customizing accessories for Dodge trucks prior to 1994. There are a few items for 1991-1993, but earlier exterior accessories (e.g., grilles, blank tailgates, etc.) are almost non-existant. A conspiracy perhaps?
On the positive side, I did find a fairly good supply of performance parts for beefing upthe Slant-6. Also, my brother-in-law has a lot of experience rebuilding them.
Is there anybody out there that struggled with this same problem as me, and more importantly, found a exterior custom parts supplier?
Ican livewith a stock styling, but other options would be nice to consider.
Thanks in advance.

you can try places like mar-k for roll pans or aar quality fiberglass for hoods but other than that you really do have to customize stuff all on ur own...there isnt much of anything for these trucks..
I bought a 86 new and the stuff was not a problem to get. I replaced it maybe 7 years ago with a 89 and could not find a thing. Seemed like everyone stopped making parts for these. I started asking at 4x4 shops and speed shops and it would shock you what some had in old stock. Good news was they would really want to sell it also for great prices. I have pretty well got all of the stuff now I was looking for by just asking if they would have any old dodge ram accessories out back.
good luck

yes, you really have to look around, i been researching websites for the last 7 months (cause there is nothing better to do iraq on down days), but here are a couple of websits: http://usbody.com/pages_trucks/72-dodge.htm, this place has hoods, these are the only three hoods i can find for this truck, stock hood, r/t hood, and 3 inch cowl hood. then they have full hood and fenders all one. just try going to www.google.comand search for parts: www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.rockauto.com. go hunting....
what about cool 4x4 stuff? i really want a big pre-runner style tube bumper for the front of my truck (like 1 3/4 in not gay-*** 3" around crap)and the rear too, and if i can find one id rather get it then wait for my tube bender to be built...im just that impatient.
Sounds like you got a nice ride, good luck on finding parts i have a 90 D-150 swb with a 3.9 V6 i can not find any thing for

Look back a few pages in this forum.A guy was talking about creating some parts for gen1`s if there was a demand. I don`t remember his handle but it shouldn`t be hard to find.I have an 87 d-150 that I would like to buy some things for too.We should get together and create some sort of database or something for our trucks. The aftermarket has completely forgotten about us.I read somewhere that Dodge built only 81000 light trucks in 93 the last year of our body style and that number included vans and Dakotas and most of those trucks went to work.I live in N.Al and I see tons of 1st gens but most of them have lived a pretty hard life.It would be nice to see more trucks like ours in car shows but there just aren`t many nice ones left.I did see one on an episode of PINKS that made it to the final 4.It had a cowl hood and a roll pan.
yeah most of the 1st gens are beat to the ground work trucks with exhaust leaks and faded, house-paint splattered paint (and ladder racks haha!). theres a good reason why the aftermarket forgot about us... no one wants to customize a beat down work truck. [X(]
