Default Rotor / Distributor question

I've been addressing some issues with engine ping/knock, and in my processI have replaced plugs, rotor, cap, etc. When doing so I noticed that there is a little bit of play on the rotor. In other words, the rotor pivots slightly when it is mounted. It pivots a little bit less than a centimeter. Although it is slight, I don't know if it is right. Am I just paranoid? Is this normal?

It might be a little loose...you could replace the distributor gear and see if that tightens things up at all or not. There is normally some slop between the dist. gear and cam gear though. When running it usually doesn't matter because all of the slop should be taken up.

I think if I'mgoing to replaceanything furtherI will probably replace the entire distributor all in one shot.I'm noticing that there's a big price difference between newdistributors and rebuit ones ($400 vs $40), so that's kind of pushing me towards leaving the whole damn thing alone.
