Default Running cold.

Alright. I'm sure a few of you have been following my post. Here are some more problems. The truck runs superb warm. I mean no problems whatsoever. Now, when i try to drive the truck cold it hesitates spits sputters and occasionally stalls. It runs terrible until its up to temp, then the thing runs like a champ. It almost feels like it might be shifting too earlier when its cold. Remember, its an 88 dodge ram d-150, so i don't believe it has a tranny temp sensor, although i haven't checked. Wouldn't seem to me to make a difference, and it feels like the motor anyway. And even highway speeds when its cold it keeps hesitating and spitting and sputtering. The egr tested out alright. No check engine light. No codes stored. Thanks for any help given.

Mine was like that too, except mine wouldn't run if it was cold outside. But if it was afternoon like about 70-80 degrees i could start it up and run fine. By cold do you mean the engine si cold or the air temperature is cold. Mine got so bad it quit starting all together, ended up being the computer. Got fried by rubbing crank sensor wire on trany bell.

can't be a choke. its an 88 d150. Has throttle body injection.

I was going to say choke too...but if it is TBI...

How about the Idle Air Control Valve? It opens and closes a passage a little like a choke...is the idle speed right when it is messing up? Does the truck have an intake air temp sensor? Some vehicles use those to adjust the fuel mixture for cold weather.

Are you running rich or lean? Check the O2 sensor. Clean the TBI.

i have already removed the throttle body and completely cleaned it out. I also replaced the o2 sensor about two weeks ago, like i said, i changed everything to do with emissions. The only thing i have yet to change is the vehicle speed sensor ( unlikely to cause this behavior), the air charge sensor in the throttle body ( might cause this problem), and the mass air flow sensor thingy in the air cleaner that controls how much warm and cold air goes to the throttle body.
