There is more to the EGR system than the EGR valve. I made a steel plate that I can bolt onto my manifold temporarily in place of the EGR valve that totally eliminates the EGR system. If it cures the problem I look deeper at the EGR system and if nothing changes I am sure that the EGR system is not the problem.

If the spray pattern is correct that eliminates the fuel system as the problem.

There are specific voltage checks listed in most manuals that you can run on the TPS and MAP circuits to isolate these systems as problematic or not. If your manual doesn't have these procedures let me know.

I made the plate and did the egr test, it didn't help. The tps and map tested OK. I'm still having a tough time getting a good look at the spray pattern but from what I can see it looks pretty good. I listened to each injector with a stethoscope, they both seem to have a regular rhythm but they do sound different. The one with the louder, kind of struggling sound is also the one I can't confirm a good spray pattern on. I'm not saying it is bad, I'm just not sure.

I would throw a can of Seafoam in a full tank of gas and run that thru completely before adding any more fuel and then listen to it again. I couldn't appreciate the difference one malfunctioning injector could make until I had one.

at the rear of the engine, to the left of the distributor, there is a sensor. Could you tell me what it is? I know what everything else is but I don't know this one. Just curious

if I unplug it when the engine is running, it dies. do you think that would happen with the oil sending unit?

Unplugging an oil sending unit wire will not shut the engine off.
