ebay FuelMod
I'm curious about this item on eBay 350017768088 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...68088&rd=1does anyone know anything about it? Is anyone willing to admit to trying it? If I try it, will I forever be ridiculed? I did an instant chat with them the other night and was told that I could expect about 16mpg. Currently, I get about 11mpg (1993 W250, 5.9l V8, 3.90 rear-end). Any thoughts? Thanks!
well, if you give it a try let us know if it works or not. Ive got a 91 dakota 5.2l i could really use a bit better gas milage
to me it just sounds like another one of those gimicks, but it could quite possibly work.

i can garauntee you that the claim of 14 more MPG is a lie.
andpromisingan extra30+ hp and torque at the same time is just crazy.
Im also skeptical for a few other reasons - firstly this isjust aresistor, and resistor chips usually workby telling the computer that the incoming air is colder (and therfore denser) and that it needs to add more gas to burnt he extra oxygen. If anything, thats gonna use more fuel!
Plus, how could this chip be good for all Rams from1990-2008? Thats likefour or so differnet engines and even more variations within each engine.
But, its cheap, and you REALLY want better mileage, so youll probably thy it anyhow.
Unfortunately we all know the horrible truth, and weve said it time and time agian, the only real ways to cutthe fuel bills are
drive slower
drive less
tire pressure
good plugs
k&n (personally, for the cost of the filter and oiling it, the .5 mpg you save isnt worth it)
the right gas, the right oil
maybe dual exaust, good manifolds, help MPG too. but lets face it, those jobs are worth hundreds and thempg payoff isonly couple bucks a week. maybe the right carburator could help. but on your newer model, EFI is prolly the most eficient.
Sorry.....

Actually, I believe it tricks the computer into leaning it out, which can help mileage and power to a point(not as much as they claim), BUT the big problem is that you run a real risk of detonation due to the leaner mix. These ebay resistor mods are generally regarded as garbage, and I advise against it. BTW, general rule of thumb, if it sounds too good to be true, it's because it is.
I dont see how leaning the a/f mix could give you an HP increase...
Ive heard also that the resistor chips trick the computer's thermostat so that it thinks its urnning colder than it is. Apparently, if it thinks the engine is running cold is "revs up to temp" which results in better performance (if its true that hotter = more efficient). It sounds like a crock, but I have seen this theory advertized.
At any rate, like you cay, if it sounds too good to be true it is. If Dodge could get you 20 mpg with a 5cent resistor, they would.

If you read the feedback for this product, most all the positive feedback is for helpful, and fast shipping. Many of the positive are "still pending installation." As for the feedback that's negative, it's all about how it's a cheap resistor with nominal, if any, preformance/MPG gain. I'd say it's a BIG NO GO!!
