Default Oil pressure gauge

I want to install an oil pressure gauge onin the cab of my truck beneath the dash and was wondering how would i go about doing that? The factory gauge is all over the place and i need something solid. Where do i put the pick up at. Do i need to drill any holes of splice wires to hook it up? Sorry i have never put one of these in before. My truck is a 1992 D150 with the 5.2L MPFI engine, automatic. Any thing would be appreciuated and do you guys have any suggestions on what gauge i should get? Like range wise 30psi, 40psi, 100psi or what? Thanks again

I would get an 80 or there abouts. You're probably about 40 running down the road, and maybe 15 at idle, but it could be 60 at cold start.Usually figure about 10 psi per 1000 rpm.I'm not sure where the oem sender is, but remove it and use that port for the gauge. You can also get a sender that will light a light when pressure drops too low, for an extra attention getter. You can get those in different pressure settings.Just tee into the line.Thats how we do our stock cars.

A mechanical gauge won't need any wiring, except for the light to see it at night. You will need to drill for the mounting bracket, unless theres already a screw hole where you want to put it.

The factory sensor is on the back side of the manifold so it's a short distance. But since my engine is ran by computer wouldn't that mess it up, and if the gauge is disconnected wouldn't that leave the low oil pressure light on? I don't want that to be on all the time. The only reason i really wnat one is because the light i have for low pressure flickers at idle but stay off at speed. I checked pump and it seems to be fine, and i have enough oil i just want a more accurate reading than the four lined factory gauge.

Yuo can put a tee fitting in to run both.
Remove sender, install tee reinstall sender, attach line, route to gauge, bleed line then attach to gauge.

This will work even with an electrical sender unit.

Yes,you are reusing your original sender and just adding another gauge be it mechanical or electric.

You could just change out the oem sensor, and see if that cures it.
