Default door jam switch help

ok guys this is just a little thing but its nice to have the interior light come on when you open the drivers side door. i took my old switch out that is on the door jam and the wires broke off. i found the wires for the new switch and pluged them on the new one and the light wont come on. does anyone know what the problem might be, and is there only 2 wires going to the switch or is there more? ok and the light does come on when i open the passanger door. please help me out on this one.

Thanks
-Russ

I have a similar question the light under my dash and the buzzer works fine. Open the door it's on and close it's off. But the overhead light (dome?) will always stay dim with the door open. Then when you close it it brightens up like a highbeam headlight. But when you turn the headlight switch for the lights to stay on all the time it dims again. And after a while smoke will start to roll put of the hole (not from the bulb) and when i put a bulb in the socket the cargo light will not come on until you remove it. The fix so far has been to leave the bulb out. Any ideas. I am not making this up
