Default What more is there to this?

I was thinking of putting a 360 into my 318 1988 d150. I found this http://orlando.craigslist.org/pts/588136354.html If I buy this what more is there that I would need to get. Compatibility and installment wise?

Pretty cheap for a complete 360. Look close before you leap. About the only thing you'll need different to physically bolt it in is a 360 converter with the weights on it, or add the weights to your existing converter. If your truck has a 904 or A500 trans, an upgrade would be highly recommended. If you keep the TBI, get a 360 throttle body and intake, the 318 computer will run the 360, as all it reads is basically load[vacuum] and fuel mix[ ox. sensor.] As long as there's plenty of fuel [360 tb] the computer doesn't care what it's bolted to. The timing curve is close enough, althoughI have found 360 open chamber heads like a little more timing than the high swirl 318s,due to lazier flame travel. Some say you need the 360 computer also. The TBI 360s have open chamber heads also, so the curve may be different. I have a 318 TBIon a360 w/ 318 tb,not enoughairflow and runs lean @WOT. {Injector duty cycle 100%} Runs OK otherwise @ cruise. Going carbed will require creative wiring, andearly dist. The voltage regulator is in the computer, sothere's another problem. Can be a headache unless you change the entire wiring harness to a carb specific setup.

Don't let this get around, but I've got a Chevy alt. on my '84. I'd never hear the end of it. Went with an MSD rather than screw around with the factory box/wiring. But my truck was carbed slant 6, with the 'fuel control' module on the air cleaner. Cut off anything that wasn't needed, and didn't have to cut much. Sorting through TBI wiring, deleting unecessary circuits could be a pain. The '88 TBIharness 'pinouts' at the bulkhead connectorare different than a carbed also.Means you have to have the matching harness under the dash to use a carbed engine harness, or figure out what goes where to run the factory carbed 5 [or 4] pin module, voltage reg.etc, or go with the MSD/one wire.Personally, I'd just keep the TBI, especially on a stock engine. Hotter cams will throw the computer into mental retardation, because of the map sensor/low vacuum. Your100% right though, the one wire is the way to go for simplicity if your lacking factory wiring.

How much horsepower would I expect to pull with the 360 + a 2 barrel carb?

not a heck of a lot.... under 200 most likely...

that said, find out what the engine code itis...maybe that one is an E58 or EH1 which is the Little Red Express/Police version. you can beat 225hp with a 4 barrel

i always get pissed off when i think about people with little 4 bangerricers getting more HP and 3-4 times the mpgthat I do.....then i remeber they arent driving with technology form the 60s and I am.
these engines are for modding.
