does anyone know if the lengths on a reg long bed frame? and will a ext. cab short bed be the same? if so will the body mounts line up? and will the 70's frames be the same as the 80's and early 90's? just wondering so i can swap my 92 ext cab onto something. just looking at options

you want to put a 90s body onto a 70s frame? i dunno the oldD series is significantly differentfrom the 81-93 range

 

well actually i want to put my 92 d15 on a 4x4 frame. cause in the topic of 2wd to 4wd everyone says to frame swap so then i asked what my options were and no had anything to say so just asking what my 92 will fit on. not necessarily the 70's but if they fit then yes.

 

The simplest, easiest way to do it would be to find an '81-'93 4X4 with a rotten body, check the frame real good, especially the crossmembers, and swap yours over. If the wheelbase is the same between the ext cabshort bed and standard cab long bed, you can move the cab mounts to fit.

 

I do believe the wheelbase is different by a few inches. As mentioned above, I would find a 81-93 frame. The pre 80 frame should work but they are not as easy to find as the 81-93

 

yea and it would be a freaking disgrace to blow away a classic truck just for the frame. anyhow if you buy one ill take the body and drop it on my first gen
