Light throttle 2-3 OK? Full throttle 1-2-3 shifts OK? Weak spring in govener most likely. Weak spring in valve body,or worn valvecan cause it too. You can chk kickdown. Should be all the way back at WOT.

Not much to do with it in the truck other than chk the kickdown linkage and adjust the bands. Pull the pan and look around, see if there's any clutch mat'l etc. If the kickdown's OK and the pan's reasonably clean, I'd just stick another trans in it,or have it rebuilt. Without driving the truck myself, educated guesses are the best I can do. Since reverse is OK, the low/reverse band is holding, you'd still have first, just no engine braking in manual low,no reverse.
What's it do when low is manually selected?

Cool. The skip was 2-3. The kick down is actually a pressure regulator. It'll smoke the trans without it. Still having trouble with it dying?
