Default 360 Tune-up

I've got a '73W200 with a 360 that I can't seem to get to run right. Below 1500 rpm is not so rough but when you push on the throttle it acts like its flooding out and even backfires occassionally, it's really bad when the engines not hot. Above 1500 rpm it runs like a dream.I'm not good with carbs so thats probably where the problemis (its a Holly 2 BBL). I've timed the engine and replaced all the basics. Any advise on where to start?

I'd agree, it's probally the carb. It may need an overhaul, the kit is cheap, but if you arn't good with carbs, you could always buy a pre-rebuilt for around 500, slap it on and go. I bought an Edelbrock because a used truck I bought had the wrong carb. They had great tech phone supportfor getting it all tuned up. I did have to pay another $50-80 for jets and rods and springs (to fine tune it) though.

I thought about that also, but he said "low RPM's are ok" and "its worse with a hot engine." To me it sounded more like a choke and/or air to fuel ratio issue (plugged up carb).

If it's an off idle stumble/sag chk the acc pump shot, and tha vac advance. The advance goes to ported vac btw, ie. no vac. at idle. The correct port is above the throttle blades.

Ditch that carb and get an edelbrock 600,easy to adjust and tune and will perform alot better, use a four barrel manifold or a 2 to 4 adapter.

I have a 318 in my 84 W150. I was told it needs a carb rebuild. Would the Edelbrock 600 work for me as well? Forgive my ignorance but is that a model number (600) or CFM? I have done quite a bit of general auto maintenance but have never had to deal with carbs (yet). Thanks

Thanks for all the advise. I've done some reading and it sounds like a good replacement is the Holley 2300. Is this correct and are there any modifications that need to be done. Also what CFM?

600 is the cfm.
edl-1405 is a manual choke
edl-1406 is a electric choke
I have used holleys and edelbrocks
I have used the edelbrock 1406 on a few vehicles and it would be my first choice for a street vehicle, very easy to setup and adjust.
