Default Electrical problems-please help ! -No reverse lights, No O/D & odometer not working

HELP- I have a 1990 Dodge Power Ram 250 4x4 with a 360 V8 and automatic with Overdrive Transmission. I just bought it, the Reverse lights don't work, the truck does not go into overdrive regardless of the O/D lockout button (But shifts great through all other gears)and the odometer isn't working. I bought another instrument cluster and swapped out mine for thee one I bought and the odometer still doesn't work (but speedometer does-on both)-Is there some type of switch or electric box of some kind that controls all this? When I replaced the cluster it was ALL electrical hookup- no cable for the odometer -That is why I wonder if there is a module Somewhere that controls all this that is burned out ? Please help- Thanks, Jim

I might have an answer for both you guys, my friend had a 1990 w250 4x4 and he lost his odometer. come to find out it was his speed sensor located on the tail stock of the transmission.well anyway its a relatively cheap and easy place to start diagnosis.watch when you pull the sensor it may leak oil i usually just plug it with a rag or something handy.hope this helps
To test the Vehicle Speed Sensor:
  • Remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor from the transmission.
  • Connect an AC voltmeter set to the 0 to 1 volt scale to the connector pins (a) and (b)
  • Turn the Vehicle Speed Sensor pinion quickly with fingers and measure the voltage across pins (a) and (b). Reading should be approximately 0.5 volts AC.
