I have an 87 D-150 318 automatic.If anyone still has the original carburetor on their truck or an aftermarket two barrel that works well would you please let me know what brand and part number? I have a tomco reman unit on mine that I can`t seem to find a kit for and I`m not sure what came on it from the factory.On the side of my carb it says Carter p2425 but on the top plate it says tomco reman.Information is limtied since nobody seems to care about carburetors anymore especially two barrels.I just want this thing to last until crate motor time which is about a year away.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

My 87 D100 has a holley on it. Came from the factory. If yours is a carter it probably is a BBD.

 

Is your truck a 318? If so are you happy with it? If so will you give me the part number?I`m not opposed to a Holley as long as it works ok and I`m sure there wouldn`t be any problems with linkage.Holleys are easy to find and easy to find parts for.I really want to replace mine just to see how far I can throw it.I want it out of my life.So there I said it, I feel a little better already.Thanks

 

I`m sure mine came with a bbd,but thats not whats on it now and I haven`t been able to find a kit for it and I`m not sure it`s worth rebuilding.

 

I'm satisfied with mine. It is a 318. I got it new in 87. Has 166500 miles on it .

 

only repairs has been timing chain & gears, oil pressure sender, and fuel pump.

 

Dont remember the carb number. Ill try to get it.

 

I forgot, A/C has had several repairs.

 

Carb is either a 2280 or 6280. the first im pretty sure.

 

I had an 87 W150 for many years. It was a 318 with the Holley 2280 series 2bbl. It performed pretty decent for the most part. Rebuilt the carb twice (the truck had 213,000 when I sold it last year). Rebuild kits should still be readily available and it's not that difficult. Pretty basic carb. Probably easy to find one in a boneyard or a reman out of the box. Be careful though. If scoping a used one or even a reman, pass it up if the air/fuel mixture screws at the front of the carb appear to be messed with - factory plugs drilled/hacked out, screws stripped. It's pretty much junk at that point.

Another critical component is the electronic idle stop solenoid on the 2280. Correct setting for that thing ensures a smooth idle (along with ignition timing, etc.)
That solenoid is no longer available from Chrysler. Hunt one down aftermarket (slim) or a Holley carb aftermarket dealer.
