Took it out of the garage today for the first time
I finally got to drive it under it`s own power!!! Because of all the rain we`ve had the last few days and the lack of power assist on the steering, I only drove it back and forth a few times, but it was a great feeling to finally get to drive it. I tried the first time, and I couldn`t get the transmission to grab. So I added a quart of fluid. That helped, but not enough. So when I got it on level ground, I stopped and checked the fluid, and then added the other two quarts I had left. Now it drives pretty good. Lots of power. The tranfer case works just fine. Now I just have to finish my fuel system, put in a cooling fan, get some sort of idler on my alternator belt, put in a windshiel, and do some body work. Then get it painted. It ran good for something with a lawnmower tank providing the fuel flow.
Now I just have to fix the massive leak around the trans. fluid dipstick. I think it`s because I had to bend it to clear my headers. Anyone got any experience with it? I`ve never had to replace the seal on a trans. dipstick before, so I would appreciate any advice I can get.
IT'S ALIVE! If it breaks down I'll come down and pull ya home with 'Ol Bumpy lol. Just kiddin'. Congrats, you've got a lot of work in that truck.
Just an O-ring on the dipstick. Chk to be sure the tube goes in the trans without cocking to one side when you put the bolt through the bracket. If the O-ring doesn't do it,drain the trans, clean the hole/tube good with carb cleaner [careful where you spray it]and put a light smear of silicone on the O-ring. I've had to extend the bracket before to get the tube to seat properly and still clear headers.

I think I`m the only guy here to drive his truck around with a lawnmower tank under the hood. You might need that Ramcharger just to get through our driveway after all this rain. It was nice to finally drive it under it`s own power. That is the first time since I bought it.

Here it is moving under it`s own power. That bearded guy driving would be my father. And if you wonder what he`s hollering about, he didn`t want to knock the light off the front of the garage.

I also cleaned the bed with a pressure washer. I also have never had the bed empty since I owned it. Probably the biggest bed I`ve ever seen on a half-ton.
