Default Dash Lights Question

On my 85 d150, the dash lights dont seem to be very bright, I checked all the lights they are all brand new, fuse is right, and the dimmer switch seems to be ok. The only thing I think is wrong with the dimmer switch is that usally when you want your dash lights brighter you turn it to the right and they get brighter, mine they get darker, when you turn it to the left the get bright, but not super bright. I was wondering it they arent really bright like newer model trucks or if there is a problem, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

John

Had the same problem with my 87 when I first got it.Turned out the previous owner had installed red lights to raise the cool factor.Mine are still not as bright as I`d like them to be after all new bulbs and a new headlight switch. You might wanna check your alternator output as this could be the problem.

There's a bulb upgrade {bigger element} but I can't remember the bulb number. You'll have to compare bulbs at the parts house to find 'em.

Default Thanks

Yea I definetly think it is the dimmer switch itself now. Tried, to turn it, and all the dash lights went out. Another little bug that I have to get fixed, Ill just run to the junk yard and get one there. Thanks for all the help guys.

I think I paid about 10 dollars for a new switch at Advanced auto pts.If you get one from a junkyard, you could have the same problem. It takes about 15 minutes to replace the switch. That`s what I love about these old trucks, not much can go wrong that I can`t fix myself.
