Default D-150 318 feels sluggish

Hey, my brother bought a D150 as a winter beater. It's a great truck and I drive it from time to time. It's got only 114K km's (71K miles) on it. I noticed that when I floor it, it seems very sluggish. It's got a V8, so I was expecting a lot more from it. The speedo is slightly off and the reverse lights won't work. Could it just be the speed sensor located in the tranny? He doesn't want to spend any money on it anymore. I've already replaced his distributor cap, wires, plugs, did a coolant flush, tranny flush, oil change, valve cover gasket replacement, and an air filter, but the truck still feels slow. The truck has a true dual exhaust on it, so I cut off the cats to inspect them and they looks brand new, so they wouldn't be restricting any exhaust flow. Should I just try replacing the speed sensor and see what happens? I doubt it's carbon build up because the truck has low miles on it.

I just went through a similar situation, and replaced all the same things you did, plus some. You may want to check for a vacuum leak. Does it make a poping noise or does it just accelerate slowly? Mine ended up being the distributor, and I found a vacuum leak. The leak was in the air temp fitting thats in the air cleaner, goes from the air warmer on intake to the inside the cleaner, then from that fitting to the carb. I just capped off the hose that went to the carb, and did away with the whole air warmer. Also during my quest I went to rebuild the carb and found there was bits of charcoal in the float bowl. I did away with the charcoal canister bit as well. We dont have emmisions test where I live. Good luck! it took me a while, but I really like the truck, and bought it for the same reasons as your brother. Just wanted something to play around in.

I doubt there's a vacuum leak. There's no popping, it just accelerates REALLY slowly. My dad says it's because the engine's old, but it's a V8, it should have much more power IMO. I'll try cleaning out the carb. and intake manifold when it gets a bit warmer
