Default Dodge newbie needs help

Well Im new here and completely new to Dodges also. I just done some trading and ended up with a 1991 Dodge 4x4 with a 318,and auto. I was wanting to know if there is any way to find out what gears, front and rearend and transmission it has. Is there any codes on the door jam? Since it is a 4x4 is it a W 150 or a D 150. Like I said I am a complete newbie to Dodge, I have always had Fords. Any help would be great.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Dodge. W in w150 indicates 4x4, so its a w150. As for the gears, there should be a tag attatched to one of the cover bolts on each pumpkin that will tell you the gearing.

Your more then likely running a Dana 44 front, and if memory serves me correctly if you peer under the front of the truck and look on either the right upper or lower web off the pumpkin you should find a 44 stamped into the metal. Also I believe on the drivers side of the transfercase there should be a metal tag rivited into the body of the case, more then likely if your running part time 4x4 its a New Process 205. The 208 were full time units.

This may help determine which rear axle you have.

I plan on rebuilding the engine which is a 318, shift kit in the tranny, lower gears, locker, and lil things here and there on it. Its my daily driver and weekend warrior.
