Clean your terminals and measure your old cables.

by acid on the top of the battery do you mean corrosion, the white podery stuff, or do you mean liquid acid? First, if its only carrosion I would disconnect both cables and clean the top of the battery with baking soda and water, then clean the terminals. However sometimes during the process of tightening the olts on the terminals it is possible to break the seal around the terminals themselves and they will begin to leak. If this is the case you will want to keep a close eye on the battery and keep the acid cleaned off until such time as you can replace the battery. I have personally run such batteries for a rather long time before replacing. Depends on if you can remove the caps to refill them with distilled water.

i have a new battery and new termanals.after i got the battery and before the terminals i looked under the hood and i had a "small run of acid" on the battery of the positive post right under the bolt for the wire.i had to buy new terminals and it still has it but not as bad.it was about a 1 inch long and white.all af the wires that goes to the terminals to me dont look good.i hope to replace them when i can and i was hoping someone has and knew what size i needed.
