Default Motor swap capabailities

I am doing research my nephew wants to take the motor and tranny out of a 68 fury and put it in his 1988 d150 ram. They are both 318v8 auto 3 speeds. I am of the opinion that if you use the dist and the tb and intake manifold off the 1988 and put it on the long block of the 1968 it should work. I know he will need to get a plate for the fuel pump spot on the 1968 block. But other than the simple little stuff I think this swap should work. Is there anything we need to aware of on such a swap?

The truck motor has 322,000 miles
the fury motor has 85,000 miles
the truck tranny is shot

Both trannys are a727
Both motors are 318 v8

I am hoping for a straight forward swap. but would like to know of any issues that I might encounter.

Thanks

check the 727's tail piece length as that can give a problem with drive shaft length. Call a junk yard as the have the books to tell them the differences if any.

No the tail housings can not be swapped. also if the tail housings are different, the transmission cross member may need to be relocated to attach the tranny mount to. You can always have a new driveline built, they are relitively cheap. Contact a reputable driveline shop and they can instruct you on how to measure to assure you get the correct length. Now its generally given that you place a yolk in the back of the tranny, bottom it out and then pull it out about an inch then measure center of u-joint bore, to center of u-joint bore on the rear end. But ask the shop they may wish it done a little differently.
