Default Timing Gear Change

[:@] I'm changing out the timing gear and chain set for a 1987 Dodge Dakota V-6. The manual instructs me to align the gear set as follows. The crank gear with timing mark in the 12 O'clock position and the cam gear in the 6 O'clock position. I looked at the current gear configuration before removal, and the cam gear is positioned in the 12 O'clock position. Now the manual I have is for 87 thru 96 but the vehicle manufacture date on the door panel reads 10/86. Is there a differance?
