Question Need a little pep.

I got a 73 dodge d100 with a 360 two barrel. auto. how can i increase throttle response. its really sluggish. also sometimes when i push the gas too hard too fast it'll backfire through the carb. can i retard the timing at all. im not looking at buying anything. and i don't want more power. i just wanna push the gas n go. tips please

A back fire through the carb always sends me to the timing first.

Check the vacuum advance and make sure the diaphram's not busted, and hook the advance to a ported vacuum source. [Only has vac. when you open the throttle,passage is above the the throttle blades] See if the mechanical advance inside the dist. is stuck. If it is tear the dist apart and clean it up, lube the advance assm.
