Default fan clutch removal

does anyone know how to remove the fan clutch on a 88 ram 50? I am trying to replace the timing belts. I removed the fan and the 4 bolts holding the clutch assembly on but it will not budge. Do I have to take the clutch apart to get to the bolt that holds the water pump pully on?

Default RE: fan clutch removal

Im not sure but it may be a screw on type fan clutch. If it is, then there should be a place to put a large wrench onto the shaft. You then need another tool to hold onto the four bolts on the pulley to keep it from moving. You have to keep the pulley from turning with one tool, and loosen the fan with the other. Sometimes they are right hand thread, and sometimes they are lefthand thread, so if it doesnt loosen in one direction, try the other. You should be able to get the tools needed in a set at most auot shops.
