Default Relatively new to off-roading; need help

Okay, so i am in the process of buying a 1987 Dodge Power Ram 4x4
318 2 barrel carb.
I am only 16 and don't have much money and i want to have a truck that i can off road (mud, trails) and ride on the road as a daily driver.
I am wondering what set-up i should use (carb, tires, lifts, axles?, anything else).
Any help would be MUCH appreciated, Thanks!

Personally I would run the truck a while just the way it is other then possibly reshoeing it with stock size rubber. Get a feel for it and see what it can do. You may find that it preforms perfectly for you just the way it is. Also remember just because it has that lever on the floor does not make it a D-8 Cat, it wont go everywhere. Then as you have more of a feel for it and find it perhaps lacking in a certain area thats where you begin.

Get a good come along and a tow strap or some hefty line. A sledge and a steel rod (at least 1 inch round by 18 inches long) works well if there are no trees where you off road. If you weld a shackle on the rod near the top it makes it easier to get out of the ground when you are done. It is the cheapest way to get you out of a jam if you get stuck. Throw this stuff behind the seat and hope you never need it. This doesn't improve your truck but tow trucks in off road situations can get real expensive.
