I agree with charlie. Just look down into the vented cowling. You can see the rod that connects the motor to the wipers. Move the blades and see if the rod turns the wiper motor shaft. This will take 5 seconds and tell you everything you need to know.

 

Yup! It's disconnected. Will need to run down to the store later.
